In today’s world, there is so much information, disinformation, and negativity surrounding the coverage of Covid-19. It is dominating the national news cycle, occupying your every thought and guiding your every move. While none of that will change overnight, there are many positive steps you can take to approach the summer and gain a sense of normalcy with both an optimistic and pragmatic approach so that you will still enjoy yourself.
With all of the precautions taken during the pandemic, one of the activities you probably missed was eating out at a restaurant. There is such a wide variety of delicious food available, the atmosphere and ambiance adding to the experience. It is something that cannot be
replicated at home and is certainly longed for by many. Contact your favourite establishment to ask how they are handling Covid protocols.
If their staff wear masks and if they are continuing to decrease indoor occupancy while employing a quality ventilation system, you can feel comfortable eating out. An even better option will be to enjoy your food at an outdoor restaurant with natural air ventilation. While you are outdoors, continue to maintain appropriate distances from others who are not in your household and wear your mask when you are not eating.
Taking a vacation was an activity that was missed by so many people last summer. It is an annual ritual for spending time with family and friends. Even the experts are taking trips while following safety guidelines for Covid-free summer fun. They are engaging in safe activities with those that are not in their households by vacationing near beaches and in National Parks and then spending time outdoors. Everything from socializing and eating to playing games can be done outside in the fresh air.
Reconnect in a safe space. Look for data on any locations you plan on traveling to for surges in Covid cases and variants. Continue to wear masks when in any indoor spaces with those who are not in your households. Get vaccinated, if you are not already. Check-in with your relatives and neighbours, especially if they are in the at-risk categories,
to see if they have been able to get vaccinated.
If you are ready to get back into a healthy routine at your favorite gym, you should feel comfortable and empower yourself to ask the staff about their ventilation system. While you can, of course, continue to wear a good quality and well-fitting mask - it is essential to your health and those around you that the airflow within any indoor space has a proper ventilation system to move it throughout the facility. How well the air filtration and corresponding cleaning system function is important, too.
Staying active should not be an alternative to staying Covid-free and safe.
While there are ample opportunities for exercising outdoors in the fresh summer air in a socially distanced setting, indoor
gyms provide different workouts for your body. Doing your part to keep the equipment sanitized between uses, maintaining the appropriate distance between other gym users, and staying focused on your workout will offer you greater safety in the fight against Covid transmission. *For the latest advice on getting back into gyms and workout centers safely along with official updates, please visit the links below for your respective region.
Assists your elderly loved ones and friends with scheduling their respective vaccinations should they have difficulty navigating the scheduling systems. Follow. up with them to ensure they receive their second vaccination, as well (depending on the brand). No matter what you choose to do this summer, maintain positivity and enjoy your time. After getting through these past months of uncertainty and sacrifice, you certainly deserve it.
Go and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine!
